Industrial Machine Vision Engineer

Job position

Industrial Machine Vision Engineer

Gnutti Carlo Group aims to deploy machine-vision inspection stations on high-volume manufacturing lines for die-cast and machined metal parts. We are looking for an Industrial Machine Vision Engineer to coordinate and technically lead machine vision and AI inspection initiatives across plants, ensuring consistency, scalability, and compliance with Group standards.

Function: OpEx, dotted ICT

Reports to:

  • Solid line: Operational Excellence Director – Group Maintenance Leader.
  • Dotted line: Group Chief Information Office

Liaises with: Management team, Plant managers, Production manager, VSM, Maintenance, Technology, Quality. Occasionally Customers.

Scope and impact:
You will drive measurable improvements in imaging robustness and deploy ability, including:

  • Reduced commissioning time per station through reusable standards and procedures;
  • Higher first-pass acceptance on image-quality verification at handover;
  • Improved uptime / reduced re-adjustments (focus, alignment, glare control, lighting drift);
  • Lower imaging-driven false rejects through stable, quantified image quality;
  • Repeatability across lines via standardized BOMs, golden settings, and acceptance criteria.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as reference technical authority for industrial AI vision systems, supporting plant teams, suppliers, and ICT;
  • Define “golden settings”: exposure, gain, strobe/triggering, and timing strategy with defined margins and drift tolerance;
  • Create alignment and calibration SOPs: targets, reference images, setup steps, and verification methods for repeatable commissioning;
  • Set measurable image-quality acceptance criteria: focus/MTF proxies, blur limits, glare control, SNR/contrast, uniformity, and ongoing drift checks;
  • Specify mechanical interface requirements: mounting datums, adjustability, stiffness/vibration constraints, service access, cable routing, and strain relief;
  • Commission on-site: bring stations to stable production operation and convert commissioning learnings into standardized, repeatable procedures;
  • Cross-functional integration: define imaging constraints and acceptance gates in collaboration with mechanical, electrical, PLC, and software/AI teams;
  • MSA: define and perform MSA procedures to support quality and operations.

Tools:

  • Industrial cameras (GigE), hardware triggers, strobes/lighting controllers;
  • Lens and illumination systems (ring/bar/dome and application-specific geometries), filters and polarization;
  • Test targets and reference artifacts for calibration/alignment and repeatable verification;
  • Capture/verification scripting (Python) and commissioning workflows on Windows and/or Linux.

Requisiti

Qualifications

Required:

  • Post-secondary or higher education (Bachelor Degree) in relevant education such as technology, quality, production.

Preferred:

  • Mechanical/Management Engineering Education.

Skills & Competencies

Required:

  • Ability to write clear SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), enforce standards, and scale best practices across multiple lines and stations;
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with a metrology mindset: controlled experiments, repeatable verification, and evidence-based decisions;
  • Python scripting for capture tests, automated verification, and reproducible imaging checks;
  • Understanding of ML dataset image quality needs (consistency, labeling readiness, illumination stability);
  • Hands-on and field-oriented: you enjoy solving real production problems at the machine;
  • Disciplined about standards, documentation, and repeatability;
  • Practical and outcome-driven: you balance image quality, cycle time, and robustness under production constraints;
  • Clear communicator: you can align mechanical/electrical/software stakeholders around measurable acceptance criteria.

Preferred:

  • Linux knowledge for commissioning and supporting Vision PCs.

Work Experience

Required:

  • 3 years’ experience or more in manufacturing sector working on AI machine vision;
  • Strong practical expertise in industrial optics and illumination (Depth Of Field, working distance, lens selection, shutter modes, polarization, lighting geometry, specular control);
  • Proven industrial commissioning experience in harsh conditions (vibration, oil/contamination, reflections, thermal drift).

Preferred:

  • Automotive sector experience;
  • Experience inspecting die-cast/aluminum reflective surfaces;
  • Experience with GigE (Gigabit Ethernet) camera configuration and hardware triggering/strobing.

Descrizione dell’azienda

Who we are

Founded in 1922 in Lumezzane, in the heart of Brescia’s manufacturing tradition, Gnutti Carlo S.p.A. has been able to transform itself from a manufacturer of components for the agricultural, firearms and railway sectors into an international leader in the automotive sector, recognized for the excellence and precision of its solutions.

The company, led from the beginning by the Gnutti family, which still plays an active role in the management and development of the Group, has been able to reinvent itself through targeted strategic transformations until the decisive turning point in the mid-80s, when the company entered the automotive sector. The growth path continues with the acquisitions of Ljunghäll in 2014 and TCG Unitech in 2018, which expand the core business with new skills in the Light Metals and molding fields. Today, with over a century of industrial experience behind it, Gnutti Carlo is a strategic partner of the world’s leading OEMs in the automotive, truck, earthmoving, e-mobility, motorcycle, marine, agricultural and generator set sectors.

Our numbers and global presence

With an annual production of more than 78 million pieces, the Group boasts a solid international footprint: 12 production and R&D plants, distributed in Europe, North America and Asia, Gnutti Carlo can count on a global industrial network and a team of almost 4,000 employees.

Our core business

The core business of Gnutti Carlo Group is based on three complementary areas of technological excellence. The Powertrain represents our historical expertise, which sees us as a world leader in the development and production of components for the Valve Train and in injection systems. Light Metals are our strength in aluminum and magnesium die-casting, with which we create complex components for the automotive sector. TCG Unitech completes the picture with the injection molding of thermoplastic materials and the development of oil and coolant pumps. Together, these three skills allow us to offer our customers integrated and highly engineered solutions, accompanying them from design to production, up to the new challenges of the mobility of the future.

Our commitment and values

Joining Gnutti Carlo Group means entering a solid industrial context that is strongly oriented towards innovation. Guided by the Added Value principle, at Everything We Do, we are committed every day to generating added value and enhancing the talent of our people in the global manufacturing landscape.
